Texas – Warm air lingers across South Texas this morning, but change is already on the horizon. Mild breezes brush palm fronds around San Antonio, masking a winter shift now tracking closer by the hour.
Early conditions feel almost springlike, with temperatures in the upper 60s before sunrise. Patchy morning fog fades quickly, allowing sunshine to push highs into the upper 70s and lower 80s. Roads remain dry, and travel conditions stay favorable through the day.
By Sunday, clouds thicken as a weak disturbance slides into Central Texas. A few light showers may develop by evening, especially west and north of the city. Winds increase steadily, signaling a stronger cold front approaching from the north.
Meteorologists now tracking that front expect a noticeable shift late Sunday night. Winds turn gusty from the north, occasionally topping 30 to 40 mph. Temperatures fall fast behind the boundary, dropping from the upper 70s earlier in the day into the 40s by early Monday.
Drivers heading out for end-of-year travel should prepare for changing conditions. Gusty crosswinds may impact travel along I-10, I-35, and Loop 1604, especially for high-profile vehicles. Wet pavement Sunday evening could briefly reduce visibility.
Monday brings a true winter feel. Skies stay mostly cloudy, highs hold in the low to mid-50s, and brisk north winds add a chill. While freezing temperatures are not expected in San Antonio, colder air spreads deeper into Texas through midweek.
Looking ahead to New Year’s Eve and the start of 2026, conditions appear calmer. Partly sunny skies return, with temperatures rebounding into the 60s by New Year’s Day—good news for outdoor plans and return travel.
