Houston, TX – Sunshine returns briefly Saturday before summer heat and scattered storms push into Southeast Texas starting Sunday, June 1.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will be partly sunny with highs near 87°F and light southeast winds. But by Sunday afternoon, a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms moves in, with temperatures soaring to 91°F—marking the city’s first taste of early summer heat.

From Sunday through Wednesday, daily highs will remain in the low 90s across Harris County and surrounding areas, including Sugar Land, Baytown, and The Woodlands. Afternoon storm chances will be scattered, peaking Tuesday and Wednesday when NWS places a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms over the Houston metro.

Drivers along I-45 and I-10 should stay alert for brief downpours and reduced visibility during the afternoon commute hours, especially on Monday and Tuesday. Although rain totals are expected to stay light, isolated storms could lead to slick roads and minor delays.

Humidity will remain high, pushing heat index values into the mid to upper 90s. Residents should stay hydrated, limit midday outdoor activity, and check air conditioning systems ahead of a likely prolonged warm pattern.

Looking Ahead:
June kicks off with a steady mix of sun, warmth, and daily pop-up storm risks through at least Wednesday, June 5. Summer weather will settle in with little overnight relief—lows each night will hover around 78°F to 79°F.
