El Paso, Texas – Severe heat will break Monday night as thunderstorms sweep across El Paso, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and possible flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in El Paso, a 50% chance of thunderstorms is expected after 6 p.m. Monday, July 28, with a noticeable cooldown to 73°F by nightfall. Lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall could impact visibility along US-54 and I-10, especially during the evening commute.

Daytime highs Monday will still push into the mid-90s, but increased humidity and unstable air may trigger afternoon storms that could strengthen by night. El Pasoans should avoid flooded underpasses, secure outdoor objects, and monitor alerts as conditions develop into the evening hours.

Tuesday brings a brief reprieve with a partly sunny sky and a high near 93°F, but rain chances return Tuesday night (40%), continuing through Wednesday as storm systems linger. Winds remain light, but afternoon downpours may result in flash flooding in low-lying areas near Loop 375 and neighborhoods adjacent to the Franklin Mountains.
