Lubbock, TX – The National Weather Service has issued multiple Wind Advisories and Freeze Watches across West and North Texas, warning of powerful gusts and plunging overnight temperatures from the Big Country through the South Plains and into the Permian Basin.

According to the NWS offices in Lubbock, San Angelo, and Midland/Odessa, strong north winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph will continue through late Tuesday afternoon, affecting areas along and north of Interstate 20 — including Abilene, Sweetwater, Snyder, Midland, Lubbock, and Hobbs, NM.

As the cold front pushes deeper into the state, a Freeze Watch will follow late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, with temperatures dropping as low as 25°F in portions of the South Plains and Permian Basin.

Forecasters warn that these conditions could knock down small tree limbs, cause isolated power outages, and damage sensitive crops or unprotected plumbing. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, cover or bring in plants, and wrap exposed pipes before temperatures dip overnight.

High-profile vehicles may experience difficulty on open highways such as I-20, US 84, and US 87, where crosswinds will remain strong through the afternoon.
