Corpus Christi, TX – A powerful cold front is sweeping through South Texas, bringing high winds and freezing temperatures that could impact travel and outdoor activities through Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Corpus Christi, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday, with north winds reaching 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph in Coastal Calhoun County and surrounding areas. Additionally, a Freeze Watch is in place from late Wednesday night through Thursday morning, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 24°F in some inland locations.
Areas affected include Port Lavaca, Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Victoria, Beeville, and Laredo. The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and cause power outages, while sub-freezing temperatures could damage crops and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should use caution in windy conditions. Residents should secure outdoor items, insulate exposed pipes, and protect pets and plants from the cold.
Temperatures are expected to rebound by late Thursday afternoon, but cold mornings could persist into the weekend.
