Houston, Texas – Boaters and anglers along the upper Texas coast should brace for hazardous marine conditions through Saturday, with wind speeds ramping up and offshore waves expected to hit 4 feet.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, wind speeds near Matagorda Entrance and up to 60 miles offshore could peak at 17 knots by Friday morning, with gusts reaching up to 25 knots in isolated areas. These conditions are expected to generate wave heights of 3 to 4 feet, particularly on Friday and Saturday, creating dangerous conditions for small craft.

The strongest winds will impact areas offshore and along the Matagorda and Galveston Bay regions. Mariners should also expect scattered thunderstorms, with rain chances hitting 70% on Saturday. Visibility may be reduced during storms, and sudden gusts could capsize poorly equipped vessels.

Beachgoers in Galveston and Freeport should be cautious of elevated surf and potential rip currents. Boaters are urged to wear life jackets, check equipment, and delay trips if possible.

Conditions are expected to moderate slightly by Sunday, though winds remain elevated through early next week. Additional small craft advisories may be issued if current trends continue.
