San Antonio, TX – A strong cold front will surge into Central Texas late Saturday, delivering some of the coldest air of the season and triggering a sharp drop in temperatures across the Austin–San Antonio region through early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, light rain is expected ahead of the front from Friday into Saturday night, with the heaviest rainfall favoring the Coastal Plains if any storms develop. Once the front moves through Saturday evening, breezy north winds will strengthen, with gusts reaching 30–35 mph from Saturday night into Sunday.

Temperatures will fall rapidly behind the front. Highs Sunday through midweek will struggle to reach the upper 40s to upper 50s, while overnight lows dip into the upper 20s to upper 30s across much of Central Texas. The coldest readings are expected in rural, low-lying areas of the Hill Country, where localized freezes are possible early next week.

NWS forecasters say the front represents “some of the coldest air of the season so far,” which may impact early-morning travel, agriculture, and outdoor plans. Residents in colder pockets around Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Boerne, Blanco, and portions of the Edwards Plateau should be prepared for potential freeze conditions Monday and Tuesday mornings.

While widespread rainfall totals are expected to remain light, forecasters note that any storms forming near the Coastal Plains Saturday night could produce higher localized amounts. The region’s sharp temperature drop and gusty winds may also produce uncomfortable wind chills Sunday.

Residents across Central Texas should monitor updated forecasts and prepare for the significant temperature swing arriving this weekend.
