Lubbock, Texas – Rain may briefly interrupt West Texas routines Thursday night, but the bigger story is the return of classic summer heat by Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, scattered thunderstorms could develop late Thursday, mainly after sunset. While the threat for severe weather remains low, gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall may impact parts of Lubbock, Levelland, and the I-27 corridor. Storm chances will diminish by early Saturday, giving way to mostly sunny skies and rising temperatures.
By Sunday, Lubbock is expected to hit 94°F under clear skies. Humidity will remain manageable, but residents are advised to hydrate frequently, limit strenuous outdoor activity in the afternoon, and check on pets and vulnerable neighbors.
The next chance for rain returns Monday afternoon and again Tuesday, with each day holding a 30 to 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially after 1 p.m. Winds will stay light and variable through the period, shifting south to southeast by early next week.
No hazardous weather alerts are currently in effect beyond Friday night’s potential storms, and spotter activation is not anticipated.
