Dallas, Texas – Widespread rain and storms are expected to return to North Texas late Friday, bringing up to 1.5 inches of rainfall and a low severe weather threat into Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service Fort Worth office, showers will redevelop Friday evening and continue through Saturday night across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and surrounding communities including Sherman, Paris, Waco, Killeen, Cisco and Palestine.

Forecasters estimate most locations will receive between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain. A few stronger storms may develop Saturday, producing small hail, gusty winds and frequent lightning. However, the overall severe weather threat remains low at this time.

Drivers along Interstate 35, Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 75 should anticipate wet roadways and reduced visibility during heavier downpours, particularly Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Outdoor activities may face interruptions, and residents are advised to move indoors if thunder is heard.

Before the rain arrives, Thursday will bring warmer conditions, with afternoon highs ranging from the upper 60s and low 70s in northeast counties to the low 80s in western areas. Overnight lows will fall into the 50s.

Rain is expected to exit east of the region by early Sunday morning. Sunshine returns Sunday, followed by a warming trend into next week. High temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 70s and low 80s by midweek — roughly 10 to 25 degrees above seasonal averages.

Commuters and students returning to school Monday should see dry conditions and above-normal temperatures.
