Midland, TX – The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for 37 counties across West Texas through 10 p.m. CST Sunday, warning of potential large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes as storms develop and intensify into the evening hours.
The watch includes major locations such as Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Pecos, Andrews, Big Spring, and Sweetwater, stretching from the Permian Basin to the Concho Valley. Forecasters say scattered thunderstorms could quickly strengthen, producing hail up to one inch in diameter and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph.
According to the NWS, residents should monitor weather alerts closely, as conditions may change rapidly. Outdoor plans should be postponed, and anyone caught in a storm should seek shelter indoors and avoid windows. Drivers are urged to use caution and avoid flooded or debris-covered roads.
The watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. CST, when forecasters expect storm activity to weaken as cooler air moves in from the west.
