Corpus Christi, Texas – South Texas will sizzle under upper-90s heat today as scattered thunderstorms and a moderate rip current risk impact the Coastal Plains region.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, there’s a 20% to 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms through Friday evening, especially near Rockport, Port Aransas, and Victoria. Winds from the southeast at 10–20 mph and wave heights of 2 to 4 feet have prompted a beach hazard alert, with swimmers warned to use extreme caution near piers and jetties.
Highs will peak at 97°F in Cotulla and Tilden, with slightly cooler conditions—upper 80s—near the coast. Rain chances will diminish overnight with lows in the mid-70s, but the heat index and rip risk will remain a concern into the weekend. A UV Index of “Extreme” and water temps in the mid-80s further raise the risk for beachgoers.
Coastal residents and visitors should stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity in peak afternoon hours, and swim only near staffed lifeguard areas.
Rain chances will ramp back up early next week, with increasing moisture Monday through Wednesday and daily highs approaching 98°F.
