Greenville, TX – Rising water along two forks of the Sabine River could lead to flooded rural roads and out-of-bank flooding across parts of North Texas beginning Wednesday as river levels surge after recent rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the Cowleech Fork Sabine River at Greenville is expected to climb above its 14-foot flood stage late Wednesday morning, cresting near 16.8 feet Wednesday evening before falling below flood stage early Thursday. At those levels, moderate flooding along the river through Greenville is possible, and several rural roads near the river could close due to high water.

Another concern is the South Fork Sabine River near Quinlan, where forecasters expect the river to rise above flood stage Wednesday afternoon and crest near 15.6 feet Wednesday evening. Minor flooding may push water out of the riverbanks in portions of Hunt and Rockwall counties before levels drop again later Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Officials urge drivers across North Texas to avoid flooded roadways and never attempt to drive through standing water. Riverbanks may also become unstable as water rises.

Additional river updates and warnings could be issued as the rivers approach crest levels Wednesday night.
