Lubbock, TX – A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. CDT Saturday for Lubbock, the Rolling Plains, South Plains, and the far southern Texas Panhandle due to increased fire danger.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, the warning was issued due to a combination of gusty southwest winds between 15 to 25 mph, gusting up to 30 mph, and critically low humidity levels dropping as low as 7 percent. These conditions significantly heighten the risk of wildfires across the region.

The warning specifically impacts cities including Lubbock, Plainview, Levelland, Littlefield, Brownfield, and Post, as well as counties throughout the Caprock Escarpment and adjacent areas. Elevated fire weather conditions are also expected in neighboring zones where a Fire Danger Statement has been issued.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of smoking materials, and avoid activities that could cause sparks. Fire crews remain on alert throughout the day.

This type of fire weather is not uncommon in West Texas during spring, but today’s conditions are particularly volatile. Officials recommend staying informed via local emergency alerts and the National Weather Service for updates through Saturday evening.
