SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Early Friday skies stayed gray across much of South-Central Texas, where a moist breeze pushed light showers into the region and hinted at a cooler, unsettled pattern ahead of the weekend. Pavement remained damp in Bexar and Guadalupe Counties as a broad area of Gulf moisture deepened, setting up several waves of rain through Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service office in Austin/San Antonio, the best chance for measurable rainfall — between a quarter and half inch — develops Sunday as a weak cold front drifts south. The system should bring scattered showers and a few thunderstorms to the I-35 corridor, especially late Sunday afternoon and evening. Though severe weather isn’t expected, brief downpours could slow travel on I-10, U.S. 281, and Loop 410 as pre-Thanksgiving trips begin.
Behind the front, drier and cooler air settles in by Monday, dropping morning lows into the 50s. Monday’s winds will turn north at 10 to 15 mph, ushering in crisp, late-fall air more typical for the week of Thanksgiving. The quieter stretch early next week looks ideal for last-minute yard work or early holiday travel across Central and South Texas.
Looking longer-range, national forecasters note signs of below-normal temperatures expanding eastward from the Plains into the Gulf and East Coast by mid- to late next week. A developing winter pattern could even bring the first measurable snow of the season to parts of the Midwest and Appalachians as Thanksgiving approaches.
