Houston, TX – High ozone levels are choking the air across Southeast Texas today, and spring storms are lining up next in the forecast.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has declared Tuesday, March 25 an Ozone Action Day for Houston, Galveston, and Brazoria counties. Commuters are urged to reduce vehicle use, especially along major routes like I-45 and I-69, to limit ground-level ozone pollution that spikes in warm, sunny weather.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston, conditions will remain dry through Wednesday afternoon with a high near 83°F. Patchy fog is likely overnight, especially before 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Light winds and increasing humidity will set the stage for a chance of thunderstorms by Thursday afternoon, with the strongest storms expected Thursday night into Friday.
Rain chances climb to 60% Thursday night and 80% by Friday, with thunderstorms bringing lightning and periods of heavy rain. A slight chance of storms continues Saturday, before clearing skies return Sunday and Monday, with highs in the low 80s.
Residents should:
- Limit driving and refuel after 6 p.m. on Tuesday
- Use public transit or carpool when possible
