Lubbock, Texas – A weak cold front will bring a sharp temperature drop across the South Plains tonight, with overnight lows ranging from the upper 40s to lower 60s across Lubbock and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, cooler air will settle in overnight, with southwest winds at 5 to 15 mph and partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will quickly rebound Friday, reaching highs between 82° and 94°, especially across the Caprock and areas just to the east.

Cities like Lubbock, Plainview, and Levelland may wake up to a brisk start Friday morning before conditions warm rapidly by midday. Winds will shift from the west-northwest to the southwest by afternoon, with speeds between 10 and 15 mph.

Residents are advised to prepare for the temperature swing by dressing in layers and staying hydrated as heat returns. Friday’s dry conditions and warming trend could also increase fire danger in rural areas west of the Caprock.

This front marks a short-lived cooldown, with no additional fronts expected through the weekend. Updates will follow if conditions change.
