Lubbock, Texas – Flash flooding and dangerous storms may soak Lubbock and surrounding counties Saturday as spring weather ramps up across West Texas.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, a 90% chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms will begin Saturday morning and continue into the evening. Some storms could produce rainfall amounts between a half-inch and three-quarters of an inch, increasing the risk of localized flooding, especially on roadways like Loop 289 and I-27.
Rain chances remain elevated through Wednesday, with daily storm development possible each afternoon. The strongest system is expected Saturday, followed by additional rounds Sunday afternoon and again Tuesday. Winds may gust up to 30 mph Monday and Tuesday.
Cities across the South Plains—including Plainview, Brownfield, Levelland, and Slaton—should prepare for flooded roads, downed tree limbs, and travel delays. Residents are urged to avoid driving through high water and secure outdoor items ahead of wind gusts.
Weekend plans may be disrupted, and spotter activation may be needed during peak storm hours. Make sure devices are charged, emergency kits are stocked, and weather alerts are turned on.
