Houston, Texas – Texas heads into the Feb 5–9 period under a noticeably split temperature pattern, with warmer-than-normal conditions settling over the Panhandle and western parts of the state while north-central Texas and the Gulf Coast trend closer to seasonal averages. Despite the contrast, precipitation chances remain limited statewide, keeping the risk for snow or meaningful rain low during this stretch.

According to the National Weather Service and NOAA outlooks, the core of colder-than-average air remains focused east of Texas, stretching from the Midwest through the Mid-Atlantic and down the I-95 corridor into the Southeast and Florida. That setup allows milder air to dominate across western Texas and the Panhandle, while more seasonable air holds across north Texas and the Gulf Coast.

In Houston, Galveston, and surrounding Gulf Coast communities, temperatures are expected to run near normal for early February, with cool mornings and mild afternoons but little threat of cold extremes. Farther north, including the Dallas–Fort Worth area, readings should also hover close to average. Across Amarillo, Lubbock, and much of west Texas, above-normal temperatures are expected, offering a noticeable break from recent cold spells.

While winter precipitation is not expected, the broader cold pattern nationwide follows recent weeks in which nearly 100 temperature-related deaths have been reported across southern states, underscoring the importance of weather awareness even during quieter periods. Texans are encouraged to remain mindful of changing conditions, use heating sources safely where needed, and stay alert for any updates. The split temperature pattern is expected to persist through the period, with limited rain chances continuing statewide.
