Austin, TX – Strong storms are expected to develop Sunday evening across Central Texas, with the greatest threat of large hail and damaging winds stretching from Burnet to San Marcos to La Grange. The National Weather Service warns that conditions may deteriorate quickly after 6 p.m. and persist into the early hours of Monday.

According to the US National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio, the window of concern extends from 6 p.m. Sunday, March 23, through 3 a.m. Monday, March 24. Areas north of a Burnet–San Marcos–La Grange line face the highest risk. While the storm outlook remains marginal (Level 1 out of 5), forecasters highlight the potential for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms, particularly those producing large hail.

Residents in affected regions are advised to remain weather-aware Sunday evening. Emergency shelters should be identified in advance, and vehicles should be moved to covered areas to protect against hail damage.

The region’s infrastructure, including local emergency services, may see increased strain during the storm window. Outdoor activities should be reconsidered, and multiple methods of receiving warnings—such as NOAA radios and mobile alerts—are strongly recommended.

This weather pattern is not unusual for late March in Central Texas, where spring instability often triggers isolated but severe evening storms.
