Austin, Texas – Scattered thunderstorms could disrupt afternoon travel across Central and South Texas today as highs climb into the upper 90s and isolated downpours target the I-35 corridor through Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, rain chances are highest east of I-35, especially in Cuero (55%) and Gonzales (41%) this afternoon and early evening. Most cities, including Austin and San Antonio, face a 15–25% chance of pop-up storms today and Monday, with daily highs ranging from 92°F to 100°F through midweek.
Del Rio tops the heat index Sunday with a high of 100°F, while Uvalde, San Marcos, and New Braunfels hover in the mid-90s. Overnight lows remain warm—generally in the mid-70s—offering little relief from the persistent heat. Rain is most likely during late afternoon hours, so residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel during peak downpours and to stay weather-aware for localized lightning or brief flooding.
This week marks a seasonable start to July, with low but steady rain chances expected daily through Friday. The NWS advises continued caution during outdoor activity and reminds Texans to hydrate, seek shade, and limit midday exposure.
⚠️ Rain chances continue daily through at least Friday, mainly in the afternoons.
