Dallas, Texas – A high-impact winter storm is set to bring dangerous ice, sleet, and snow across much of North and Central Texas, raising serious concerns about power outages and travel conditions through Sunday. Roads could quickly become impassable as freezing rain coats highways, bridges, and overpasses.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for a large portion of the region, beginning as early as Friday evening in North Texas and early Saturday in Central Texas. Ice accumulations between a quarter and a half inch are expected, with isolated areas seeing up to three-quarters of an inch, especially east of I-35. Sleet and snow totals of 1 to 3 inches are forecast across much of North Texas, with near 5 inches possible closer to the Red River.

The combination of heavy ice and gusty winds could down trees and power lines, leading to widespread and potentially long-lasting power outages. Major corridors including I-20, I-30, I-35, and U.S. 75 are likely to become extremely hazardous. TxDOT warns that travel could be impossible at times, particularly Saturday night into Sunday.

Residents are urged to delay travel, prepare for extended power outages, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Road conditions can be monitored at drivetexas.org. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect through Sunday midday, with conditions expected to improve slowly thereafter.
