HOUSTON, Texas – Storm chances will climb in the Houston area Sunday night into Monday, raising the risk of localized flooding on major roads including I-45 and I-10. Drivers should plan for slower commutes and stay alert to sudden downpours that could reduce visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered thunderstorms are expected Sunday afternoon before becoming more widespread Sunday night into Monday. The heaviest rain is likely during the day Monday, with a 60 percent chance of showers and storms. Temperatures will remain in the upper 80s, but humidity will make it feel hotter.

Residents in Harris County and surrounding areas should prepare for changing road conditions. Brief power outages are also possible if storms strengthen, especially where lightning clusters develop. Emergency officials urge people to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and avoid driving through flooded intersections.

Monday night will bring a slight break, with mostly clear skies after 7 p.m. Storm activity picks up again Tuesday, with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms as highs reach the low 90s. Southeast winds between 5 and 10 mph will add to the muggy feel through midweek.

The unsettled pattern continues into Wednesday before tapering slightly Thursday, keeping daily rain chances in the forecast. While no widespread severe weather is expected, repeated storms may lead to ponding water on low-lying roads and school pickup zones.

Stay weather-aware and monitor alerts as conditions shift quickly. More advisories could be issued if storms intensify.
