TEXAS — The early-morning air feels heavy and warm across Houston, carrying that familiar Gulf moisture that hints at brewing change. Clouds linger low and gray, drifting over quiet streets as the city moves into what could be a volatile stretch of late-week weather.

The National Weather Service in Houston reports mostly sunny conditions through today, with highs near 80°F and light winds from the east. It’s a brief pause before a developing system begins to feed moisture into the region, setting the stage for thunderstorms and potentially heavy rainfall by late Friday into Saturday.

By Thursday, skies will turn partly cloudy with isolated storms forming after midday. While most areas stay dry, residents should keep an eye out for pop-up cells capable of brief downpours. Friday marks the transition day — humid air surges north, highs climb to the mid-80s, and storm coverage increases sharply through evening. Some storms could bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning near I-45 and the Houston metro.

Saturday currently looks to be the wettest day, with confidence growing in widespread rainfall across southeast Texas. Localized flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas is possible if storms stall. Roads could be slick during morning travel and outdoor events may be disrupted.

Conditions gradually improve by Sunday, though scattered showers may linger near the coast. By early next week, drier air returns with mild sunshine and highs in the upper 70s — a welcome break after a damp, tropical few days.
