Houston, Texas – Heavy rain and building heat are set to trigger flooding concerns across Texas, with repeated storm rounds capable of producing 3 to 5 inches of rainfall and disrupting travel through Sunday, April 12th.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, much of Texas is positioned in an above-normal precipitation zone during this stretch, with multiple waves of rain and thunderstorms expected. At the same time, above-normal temperatures will push highs into the upper 70s and 80s, increasing humidity and fueling intense downpours.

Across Harris, Dallas, and Travis counties, repeated rainfall may quickly overwhelm drainage systems, especially in urban areas. Low-lying roads and flood-prone zones are at highest risk. Drivers along I-10, I-35, I-45, and I-20 should prepare for reduced visibility and water-covered roadways during heavier storms. Officials urge motorists to avoid flooded streets and monitor local alerts.

In Houston, periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms may impact commutes and outdoor activity, particularly during afternoon and evening hours. Dallas and Austin will see similar conditions, with localized flash flooding possible where storms repeatedly track over the same areas.

San Antonio and surrounding South Texas communities may also experience bursts of heavy rain, though coverage could be more scattered at times.

This warm and active pattern is expected to persist through April 12th, with additional flood advisories likely if rainfall totals increase or storms intensify.
