Lubbock, TX — A spring weather alert is in effect across West Texas as unseasonably warm temperatures take hold, with Lubbock expected to reach 86°F by Wednesday and push into the 90s by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, clear skies and steady sunshine will dominate the region beginning Tuesday evening, with a high of 80°F expected during the day and lows dropping to the upper 40s overnight. Winds will shift throughout the week, with noticeable changes expected by Wednesday afternoon as a southwest breeze turns northerly.

Wednesday’s high near 86°F will mark one of the warmest spring days so far this year, prompting heat awareness for those traveling along U.S. Route 84 and other exposed roadways. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure during peak heat hours. Farmers and outdoor workers should especially monitor wind changes that may increase dust or pollen activity.

Thursday and Friday will see highs in the upper 70s with plenty of sunshine, keeping travel smooth and skies clear for local events. Lows during the week will remain between 47°F and 54°F, allowing for cool evenings without frost risk.

By the weekend, Lubbock will climb to 90°F on Saturday and 92°F by Sunday, continuing the stretch of sunny, dry spring weather. Winds will stay mild between 5 and 15 mph, and no rain is currently in the forecast.

Residents should prepare for warm, dry days ahead and continue monitoring updates for any sudden shifts.
