San Antonio, Texas – Tropical moisture combined with a passing front could drench South-Central Texas through Sunday night, raising concerns about flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Some locations could pick up 2 to 4 inches of rain before the system exits the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, a Level 1 out of 4 risk for excessive rainfall is in place, meaning localized flash flooding is possible if storms repeatedly track over the same areas. Rain chances sit between 50% and 80% across much of South-Central Texas.

The heaviest downpours are most likely near San Antonio, Austin, and the Hill Country, though forecasters warn there is still uncertainty about where the rain bands will set up. Roads such as I-35, U.S. 281, and rural low-water crossings could see quick flooding if heavier totals develop.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways, charge devices in case of power interruptions, and monitor alerts throughout the weekend. Localized flooding can occur rapidly, even in areas that have been dry in recent weeks.

Rain chances are expected to diminish gradually by Monday, though additional advisories could be issued if heavy rainfall lingers.
