Houston, Texas – Drivers and residents north of Houston should prepare for possible hazardous travel and street flooding as heavy rains move into the region Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston office, a slowly advancing cold front will bring widespread rain starting early Wednesday. Areas such as Brenham, College Station, Huntsville, Madisonville, and Crockett face a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for excessive rainfall through the day.

Locally heavy downpours could impact sections of Interstate 45, Highway 290, and surrounding roadways, raising the potential for water ponding and brief street flooding. Commuters are urged to monitor conditions closely and avoid low-lying or flood-prone areas when possible. Hazardous travel conditions are most likely during afternoon and evening hours.

This rain event follows a period of unusually warm and dry weather, with cooler, wetter conditions expected behind the front. Residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware, ensure mobile alerts are enabled, and be prepared for changing road conditions throughout Wednesday.

Rain chances will taper off by early Thursday morning, but additional watches or advisories could be issued if rainfall rates intensify.
