Lubbock, TX – Residents should prepare for widespread heavy rain beginning late Sunday, with potential flooding affecting areas near U.S. Route 62 and beyond. After a sunny and dry Saturday, a significant weather system is set to bring 1 to 3 inches of rain through Monday morning, creating hazardous conditions in flood-prone regions.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, the storms are expected to develop Sunday evening, intensifying overnight and continuing into early Monday. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated after dark, which will make driving more dangerous due to limited visibility and water accumulation on roads. Residents are urged to avoid flooded areas and stay updated with local forecasts.
Sunday’s high will reach 64°F, but rain will dominate the day, starting with scattered showers in the afternoon before heavier rainfall begins at night. Winds from the east will strengthen as the storm system moves in, creating blustery conditions through Monday.
The forecast improves Monday afternoon, with partly sunny skies and a high near 62°F. By Monday night, conditions will clear, and temperatures will dip to a low of 40°F. Tuesday through Thursday will bring sunny skies and milder temperatures, with daytime highs ranging from the mid-50s to mid-60s.
Emergency management officials advise residents to stock up on supplies, charge devices, and remain vigilant for flash flood warnings. Use caution on U.S. Route 62 and other major roadways prone to water pooling.
