Houston, Texas – The early morning air across Houston feels warm and still — the kind of calm that signals a change. Clouds are already building to the west, hinting at what’s ahead: a surge of Gulf moisture and widespread thunderstorms that could make for a wet and stormy Friday across southeast Texas.

The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston says rain chances will increase sharply Friday morning through Saturday, bringing periods of heavy rainfall and possible thunderstorms. Some areas could see one to three inches of rain, with locally higher totals where storms linger. Low-lying and flood-prone areas — especially along I-45, Beltway 8, and Highway 59 — could see brief ponding or minor flooding during heavier downpours.

Residents should plan for slower commutes and wet pavement late Friday and Saturday morning. Winds from the southeast will strengthen to 15–20 mph, adding to the storm’s punch. For now, there’s no severe weather alert in effect, but the pattern will remain unsettled through early Saturday.

By Saturday afternoon, showers will gradually fade, leaving behind muggy air and clearing skies. Sunday looks mostly sunny and warmer, with highs near 80°F — a welcome break after the rain.

Early next week brings a more stable pattern, though models hint at another system forming in the western Gulf by midweek. It’s too early for details, but late October’s stormy rhythm continues — a humid reminder that Houston’s fall weather can turn quickly from still to stormy.
