LUBBOCK, Texas – Drivers across West Texas face another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms Sunday night, raising risks of slick roads and low visibility. Travel could be most difficult along I-27, where standing water and heavy downpours may create hazardous overnight driving conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, thunderstorms are expected to taper off before dawn Monday. Rainfall totals between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are likely, with isolated pockets of heavier rain possible. Lows will hold near 65 degrees, with south winds around 10 mph.

By Monday morning, skies will clear, giving way to sunshine and a high near 86. South winds will remain light, between 5 and 10 mph, keeping conditions comfortable. Monday night stays mild with a low near 65 under partly cloudy skies.

Tuesday will feature abundant sunshine and highs in the mid-80s. Cooler overnight lows in the lower 60s bring a brief taste of early fall. Another chance of storms returns Wednesday afternoon, though coverage looks limited to 20 percent.

Residents should stay cautious on the roads overnight and avoid driving through flooded areas. Even shallow water can stall vehicles and pose dangers.

Storm chances fade by late week, leaving behind sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s into next weekend. Additional advisories may be issued if storm coverage increases midweek.
