Abilene, TX – A line of potentially severe thunderstorms is expected to move through west-central Texas Tuesday afternoon, bringing the threat of large hail and damaging winds to cities including Abilene and San Angelo.

According to the National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo, the strongest storms are expected from late Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night. The primary hazards include hail up to the size of golf balls and strong winds capable of downing tree limbs and damaging structures.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the region under a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe weather. This includes Abilene, Sweetwater, San Angelo, and surrounding areas. Isolated to scattered storms may develop rapidly and intensify, posing risks during evening commutes and overnight hours.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local forecasts, and prepare for potential power outages. Those traveling Tuesday evening should allow extra time and remain alert for quickly changing weather conditions.

Historically, spring storms in this region bring frequent hail events. Emergency officials recommend having multiple ways to receive alerts and shelter plans ready, especially for mobile home residents or those without sturdy shelter options.
