Houston, TX – A series of cold weather alerts have been issued for southeast Texas as temperatures plunge. Wind chill values could drop as low as 10°F, prompting residents to take precautions.

According to the National Weather Service, a Freeze Warning will remain in effect from midnight to 10 a.m. Monday, with temperatures expected to reach 22°F in Houston and nearby counties. Additionally, a Cold Weather Advisory will last until noon Monday and resume Monday night through Tuesday evening. An Extreme Cold Watch is also in place for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

The advisory affects Brazos, Houston, Madison, and eight other counties, including cities such as Bryan, College Station, and Huntsville. The freezing conditions pose risks of hypothermia, frostbite, and damage to plants and outdoor plumbing.

Officials urge residents to dress in layers, bring pets indoors, and insulate exposed pipes. Portable heaters should be used safely, avoiding indoor use of generators or grills. Residents should also check on elderly neighbors and monitor updates from local authorities.
