FORT WORTH, Texas – North Texas faces one more blast of summer heat as temperatures soar near 99°F Thursday, September 4. Drivers and residents should prepare for possible storm disruptions by the weekend, especially along I-35 and other busy corridors.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies and extreme heat with highs near 99°F. By Friday, conditions ease slightly, with highs in the upper 90s, but storm chances increase Friday night through Saturday. A 30 to 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms could complicate evening events, including high school football games.

Storms may bring brief heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds across Tarrant, Denton, and Dallas counties. Motorists should allow extra travel time and avoid flooded underpasses. Outdoor plans Friday night into Saturday could face delays as showers move through, especially east of Fort Worth.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated during Thursday’s heat and to monitor updates late week as storms develop. Keep phones charged, have alternate shelter for outdoor activities, and plan for slower travel if storms hit during peak events.

Conditions shift toward a cooler pattern early next week, with highs dropping into the low to mid-80s.
