Corpus Christi, TX — A widespread flood watch has been issued for South Texas, including Corpus Christi, beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, the alert covers numerous counties across South Texas, where rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to produce dangerous flash flooding conditions. The flood watch goes into effect at 1 p.m. Wednesday and is set to expire by 9 a.m. Friday.

Forecasters warn that excessive runoff may lead to flooding in rivers, creeks, urban zones, and low-lying areas. Dry soil conditions, caused by months of below-average rainfall, may cause rainwater to quickly accumulate, increasing the flash flood threat. Areas like Victoria, Laredo, Beeville, and Port Lavaca are included in the advisory.

The Weather Prediction Center has placed the region under a Moderate Risk for flash flooding, with numerous significant events considered likely. Commuters and residents are urged to avoid low-water crossings and monitor alerts from local authorities.

Residents should prepare emergency kits, clear storm drains, and stay informed via NOAA Weather Radio or weather.gov. If a flash flood warning is issued, move to higher ground immediately.
