CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A warm breeze rustles dry brush across the South Texas plains this morning—a warning sign of dangerous fire conditions building for Sunday. The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a Fire Weather Watch for much of South Texas, including Nueces, Kleberg, Jim Wells, and La Salle counties, beginning Sunday morning and lasting through Sunday evening.

A strong cold front sweeping in from the north will bring 20 to 25 mph winds, with gusts as high as 40 mph across open areas. Coupled with humidity dropping as low as 15 percent, any sparks or embers could spread rapidly through dry grass and ranchland. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Residents are urged to secure outdoor grills, avoid open flames, and delay debris burning until safer conditions return early next week.

By Sunday afternoon, gusty northerly winds will sweep through I-37, Highway 44, and the Coastal Bend, briefly cooling temperatures before calmer weather returns Monday. The shift will usher in a stretch of cooler, clearer air—highs in the low 60s by Monday, with crisp mornings in the upper 40s.

Looking ahead, Veterans Day brings ideal outdoor weather: sunshine, light winds, and highs near 73°F. Fire danger will ease as moisture rebounds midweek, though another warming trend is expected by late week, hinting at a mild, breezy pattern leading into mid-November.
