Texas Weather Alert: Dangerous Heat and Weekend Rain Chances from Gulf Disturbance Through Sunday

Austin, Texas – A dangerous heat dome is gripping Central and South Central Texas, with high temperatures soaring into the triple digits Thursday and Friday — the hottest stretch since mid-May — while rain chances creep in by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, heat index values could peak around 105°F Thursday as highs hit 100°F or more across Austin, San Antonio, Eagle Pass, Del Rio, and surrounding areas. A weak Gulf disturbance could push isolated thunderstorms into the region beginning Friday night through Sunday, but flooding is not expected.

Cities including La Grange, Gonzales, and Cuero may see the best chance of measurable rain, with probabilities peaking Saturday (La Grange 55%, Gonzales 45%). Despite the tropical moisture, temperatures will remain high, with overnight lows stuck in the mid to upper 70s — offering little relief.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable individuals and pets. Afternoon sunshine will dominate following brief morning cloud cover.

While the Gulf system has only a 10% chance of tropical cyclone development, additional showers and storms may move inland this weekend. The heat advisory remains in effect, and updates are expected as rain chances evolve.
