Fort Worth, TX – A deep freeze is set to grip North Texas as temperatures plummet into the single digits overnight, with wind chills dropping as low as -7°F. The National Weather Service in Fort Worth warns that many areas will struggle to climb above freezing by Thursday afternoon.
According to the NWS, cold conditions and dangerous wind chills will continue through Thursday morning, making for a frigid morning commute. Cities like Dallas-Fort Worth (14°F), Gainesville (13°F), and Paris (9°F) will experience some of the lowest temperatures. Wind chills between -7°F and 5°F could make conditions hazardous.
By Thursday afternoon, temperatures will begin to rise slightly, but several areas, especially in the northern parts of the region, may not break out of the 20s. A weather map highlights regions near Sherman, Paris, and Bowie as particularly vulnerable to prolonged freezing conditions.
Officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, check on elderly neighbors and pets, and dress in warm layers. Additionally, residents should take precautions against freezing pipes and ensure space heaters are used safely.
