Dallas, Texas – A developing winter weather pattern could bring freezing rain to the Dallas–Fort Worth area late this week as temperatures dip into the lower 20s, raising concerns for icy roads and hazardous travel. Even light icing could create significant impacts, especially during overnight and early morning hours.
According to the National Weather Service, colder air will push into North Texas from Saturday through early next week, with temperatures falling near 23 degrees at night. Periods of rain may move through while surface temperatures hover at or below freezing, increasing the risk for freezing rain and ice accumulation on elevated surfaces.
The highest concern is across the Dallas–Fort Worth metro, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Arlington, and surrounding suburbs. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads along Interstates 20, 30, 35E, 35W, and U.S. 75 could become slick if freezing rain develops. Even brief icing could lead to slowed traffic, accidents, and potential flight delays at area airports.
Emergency management officials urge residents to monitor road conditions closely, avoid unnecessary travel during icy periods, and prepare homes for freezing temperatures by protecting exposed pipes. Drivers should reduce speeds and allow extra stopping distance if ice forms.
Cold conditions are expected to persist into early next week, and additional winter weather advisories or ice-related alerts may be issued as confidence increases.
