Abilene, Texas – Temperatures will fall fast across West Central Texas tonight, dropping nearly 20 degrees in just a few hours as a cold front sweeps through the region by 1 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo, winds will shift from the northeast to north behind the front, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph this evening across the Big Country, including Abilene and surrounding communities. The front is expected to move along the I-10 corridor by around 1 a.m., bringing noticeably cooler air into the region.

Cities including Abilene, Sweetwater, San Angelo and Ballinger will see temperatures fall into the 70s by late evening, with some northern areas like Haskell and Throckmorton dipping into the upper 60s before midnight. By early Monday morning, lows are expected to settle into the lower 50s across much of the area.

Breezy conditions may make it feel cooler overnight, especially in open areas along I-20 and rural highways. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and prepare for a sharp overnight cooldown.

The cooler air will hold into Monday before warmer conditions begin building back into the region later this week. Additional updates may follow as the next system approaches.
