Amarillo, TX – A cold front is set to move across the Texas Panhandle tonight, bringing cooler air and the potential for scattered storms, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Amarillo.
Forecasters said Tuesday night could see a 30% chance of thunderstorms, some of which may linger into Wednesday morning. Temperatures are expected to dip into the upper 60s to upper 70s on Wednesday, marking the coolest day of the week.
According to the NWS, Thursday will bring sunny skies and highs in the lower 80s, before warmer conditions return heading into the weekend. Friday could see highs between 84 and 90 degrees. Another low chance of storms (20%) is forecast for Saturday afternoon, though overall impacts are expected to remain minor.
The weather service emphasized that this week’s cold front will only provide temporary relief from the lingering summer heat. By the weekend, temperatures will return to near-normal for late September in the Texas Panhandle.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware, especially Tuesday night into early Wednesday, when storms may develop.
