Dallas, Texas – A shift toward a warmer and wetter weather pattern is expected across central and eastern Texas between Tuesday and Saturday, raising the potential for periods of rain and localized travel impacts. Temperatures are forecast to run well above normal, setting the stage for an active stretch of weather that may feel more like early spring than late January.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, central and east Texas carry a 60–70% probability of above-normal temperatures during the January 20–24 period. At the same time, precipitation probabilities increase to 40–60%, signaling a growing risk for multiple rounds of rain as storm systems move through the Southern Plains.

In the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, daytime highs are expected to climb well above typical late-January levels, while mild overnight temperatures limit any cold-weather concerns. That warmth will support rain rather than wintry precipitation, with showers developing at times as disturbances move across the region. Central Texas cities including Austin, Waco, and Temple may also see periods of steady rain, particularly during midweek, with wet roads likely during peak travel times.

Across east Texas, including Tyler, Longview, and Lufkin, the combination of warm air and increased moisture could lead to heavier rain at times. While widespread flooding is not currently indicated, brief ponding on roadways and reduced visibility are possible during heavier downpours. Major travel corridors such as I-35, I-45, I-20, and U.S. 79 could see slowdowns during rain events.

Residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware during the Jan 20–24 period, especially if traveling. Clearing storm drains, allowing extra commute time, and monitoring updated advisories can help reduce impacts. This warm, active pattern is expected to persist through late week, and additional updates may be issued as rain timing and coverage become clearer.
