San Angelo, Texas – Triple-digit heat is returning to west-central Texas as temperatures climb toward 100°F across Abilene, San Angelo, and Sweetwater, with dangerously high humidity intensifying the risk of heat-related illnesses through next Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, maximum temperatures will reach between 97°F and 100°F for cities including Abilene, Ballinger, and Brady from Thursday, July 17 through Wednesday, July 23. Overnight lows are expected to remain warm, hovering in the mid-70s, offering little relief. Key agencies warn that the combination of extreme heat and humidity will sharply increase the risk of dehydration and heat exhaustion, especially for outdoor workers and vulnerable groups.

Drivers on I-20 and US-67 should prepare for high pavement temperatures, while residents in San Angelo, Sweetwater, and Brownwood are urged to limit strenuous activity between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Emergency officials recommend drinking plenty of water, checking on elderly neighbors, and never leaving children or pets in vehicles. This extended heatwave is the most intense the region has seen since the July 2022 streak, with power grid strain possible if air conditioner use spikes.

Excessive heat warnings may be expanded as temperatures remain elevated into the middle of next week. Stay tuned to the National Weather Service for additional advisories and updates.
