Corpus Christi, TX – Temperatures are surging toward the upper 90s across South Texas, creating hot, dry conditions that are increasing the risk for fast-spreading fires through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, highs will range from 81 to 99 degrees from Saturday through Monday, with dry air and mostly clear skies dominating the pattern. These conditions support elevated fire weather concerns each day, especially during peak afternoon heating.
Cities including Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Alice, and Rockport will experience persistent heat with limited overnight cooling, as lows remain in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Dry vegetation combined with warm temperatures increases the likelihood that any spark could quickly ignite a grass fire, particularly along roadways like U.S. 77 and State Highway 358.
Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, secure equipment that may produce sparks, and properly dispose of cigarettes. Fire risk remains elevated through at least Monday as dry weather continues with no rainfall in sight.
The hot and dry pattern is expected to persist into early next week, and additional advisories may be issued if fire conditions worsen.
