Corpus Christi, Texas – Heat is rapidly building across South Texas, with temperatures pushing into the mid to upper 90s by the weekend and creating growing fire concerns across the Coastal Bend.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, dry conditions will persist through the end of the week and into early next week, with highs climbing from the mid-80s Friday to between 96 and 97 degrees by Saturday and Sunday. Elevated fire weather conditions are expected daily through at least Monday due to low humidity and warming temperatures.
The hottest conditions will impact inland areas first, but even coastal cities like Corpus Christi and Rockport are expected to reach the mid-90s. Overnight lows will offer limited relief, staying in the upper 50s to mid-60s.
With dry vegetation and increasing heat, any spark could quickly spread into a fast-moving grass fire. Areas along U.S. Highway 77 and Interstate 37 face heightened risk, especially during the afternoon when temperatures peak.
Residents should avoid outdoor burning and use caution with equipment that could produce sparks. The hot, dry pattern is expected to continue into early next week, with fire concerns remaining elevated through at least Monday.
