Lubbock, TX – Triple-digit-style heat for March is arriving fast across the South Plains, with temperatures jumping into the 90s starting today and holding through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, highs will reach around 93 degrees in Lubbock Thursday, with even hotter readings near 96 degrees in Childress and 92 degrees in Plainview. This marks the beginning of a four-day stretch of 90-degree temperatures across much of the region.

The heat intensifies Friday and Saturday, with widespread mid to upper 90s expected under clear skies and no chance of rain. Overnight lows will offer limited relief, only dropping into the mid-40s to low 60s. By Sunday, highs remain in the upper 80s to mid-90s before a cooler pattern arrives early next week.

Cities across the South Plains, including Levelland, Brownfield, and Littlefield, will experience well above-normal temperatures, running 15 to 25 degrees higher than typical mid-March values.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid peak afternoon heat, and limit outdoor burning as dry conditions increase wildfire risk. Fire danger will remain elevated through the weekend.

The heat wave begins to ease Monday, with highs dropping into the 70s, but near-record warmth remains possible through Sunday.
