Austin, Texas – Flash flooding and strong storms could disrupt travel across Central Texas by Sunday afternoon as multiple rounds of rain move through the region this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, both Saturday night and Sunday carry a Level 2 risk for severe storms and excessive rainfall. Rain chances range from 30% to 70%, with the highest coverage expected Sunday across Austin, San Antonio, and surrounding Hill Country communities.
Storms developing west of I-35 late Saturday could intensify as they move toward the I-35 corridor, bringing locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds. By Sunday, a broader area—including Georgetown, New Braunfels, and Seguin—faces an increased risk for excessive rainfall, which could lead to rapid runoff and localized flooding.
Low-water crossings, especially near San Antonio and along smaller creeks in Travis and Bexar counties, may become hazardous during periods of heavy rain. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and monitor real-time alerts.
Residents should keep multiple ways to receive warnings and review safety plans, particularly if traveling or attending outdoor events. The unsettled pattern is expected to continue into early next week, with additional advisories possible as conditions evolve.
