Texas – Trash cans slide across driveways and flags snap sharply in the wind as strong northwest gusts sweep into the Dallas–Fort Worth area this morning. Conditions are already turning breezy, but the strongest winds will arrive through the afternoon as a powerful system pushes across North Texas.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m. Monday for much of North and Central Texas, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, McKinney, Sherman, and Waco. Sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with gusts reaching 50 mph during the afternoon and evening.

These gusts could make driving difficult along major highways including Interstate 35, Interstate 20, and U.S. Highway 75, especially for trucks, RVs, and other high-profile vehicles. Small tree limbs may snap, and unsecured outdoor items could blow across roads and parking lots. Residents should secure patio furniture, trash bins, and construction materials before winds strengthen.

At the same time, extremely dry air creates another concern. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon until 9 p.m. for areas near and west of the I-35 corridor, including parts of Dallas–Fort Worth and communities stretching toward Mineral Wells and Stephenville.

Humidity may drop to around 20 percent, while temperatures climb into the lower 80s. That combination means any spark could spread fire quickly across dry grass and fields. Officials strongly discourage outdoor burning or welding during peak wind hours.

The wind finally eases after midnight, and noticeably cooler air settles into North Texas by Monday. Sunshine returns quickly, and temperatures rebound steadily through midweek.

By St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday, bright skies and calmer winds should bring a comfortable spring feel across Dallas and surrounding cities. Even warmer weather appears likely later next week as spring warmth builds across Texas.

If you’re heading out today, keep both hands on the wheel and watch for debris on roads. Have you noticed the winds picking up in your neighborhood yet?
