Houston, Texas – A sharp temperature swing is underway this morning, with freezing conditions gripping parts of Southeast Texas before a rapid warm-up sends highs soaring toward the upper 80s by the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston-Galveston, temperatures dropped into the low 30s early Tuesday across inland areas including Conroe, Huntsville, and Livingston, with Houston near 38°F and colder pockets briefly dipping below freezing. These conditions may impact sensitive plants and exposed pipes during the early morning hours.
The cold will ease quickly by Wednesday afternoon as highs climb into the upper 70s and low 80s across much of the region. By Friday, Houston is expected to reach the mid-80s, with inland cities like College Station and Columbus pushing even higher.
The most significant heat arrives this weekend, when temperatures approach 88°F to near 90°F inland, including areas like Huntsville and Wharton. Coastal locations such as Galveston will remain slightly cooler in the mid-70s but still well above normal.
Residents should protect sensitive vegetation early, then prepare for warm, dry afternoons later this week by staying hydrated and limiting prolonged outdoor exposure during peak heat.
No rainfall is expected through the period, and additional updates may follow as the warming trend intensifies into early next week.
