San Angelo, Texas – Severe storms are expected to develop within hours across west central Texas, with the greatest threat beginning after 4 p.m. and intensifying into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) is in place for areas including Abilene, San Angelo, and Brownwood. Storms are expected to organize into a line between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., bringing damaging wind gusts up to 79 mph and large hail potentially exceeding 2 inches in diameter. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Earlier storms may begin as scattered cells late this afternoon before becoming more widespread overnight. In addition to severe weather, heavy rainfall could exceed 1 inch in localized areas, increasing the risk of minor flooding, especially in low-lying and urban locations.

Roadways across the Concho Valley, Big Country, and northwest Hill Country could become hazardous quickly, particularly after sunset when visibility drops.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid driving through flooded roads, and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight.

Storms will continue into early Thursday morning, with additional updates possible as conditions evolve.
