Austin, Texas – High temperatures across Central and South Texas will linger near or above 100°F through early next week, bringing seasonably hot conditions to the region. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms will mainly target areas east of I-35, especially from Friday into Tuesday, as locally heavy downpours and gusty winds return to the forecast.
According to the National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio, daily highs will top out between 97°F and 103°F from San Antonio to Austin and surrounding counties. Rain and thunderstorm chances increase Friday and Saturday—especially for communities like Gonzales, La Grange, and Schulenburg—where rainfall could impact late-day commutes and outdoor plans.
Roads such as US 77 and I-35 may see brief ponding or reduced visibility in heavy downpours, particularly during afternoon and evening hours. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities during peak heat. The region remains under a pattern of partly cloudy skies, but pop-up storms could bring quick relief—and hazards—east of I-35.
For much of the area west of I-35, rain chances will stay lower, and temperatures will persist in the triple digits. This stretch marks one of the warmest starts to August in recent years, with little overnight relief expected.
Elevated heat and scattered storms are forecast through at least Tuesday, with additional advisories possible. Stay tuned for updates as conditions evolve.
